Your Microlight Jacket is not waterproof. The Microlight Alpine Jacket is designed for alpine climbers who want something light and packable that protects them against wind and snow. It does have a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) coating that will deflect snow, but we don’t advise wearing this out in the rain.

The Microlight Alpine is considered a slim fit. It was large enough around the torso that we felt no constriction whatsoever, which is more than we can say about some other trim fitting jackets in the lineup. The coat has a loose enough fit that wearing a layer underneath is no problem.

Would the Rab jacket have worked for me?

I wish the Rab jacket had worked, because unlike the Arcteryx jacket, the Rab has treated hydrophobic down that can withstand getting wet to an extent. The fit might work for some people. It is narrower at the shoulders, but wider in the waist body than the Arcteryx fit.
